Beyond Broadcast Conference - June 17, 2008

Beyond Broadcast, organized by the Center for Social Media, has become a can’t-miss destination for innovative media-makers, scholars and policy experts seeking to understand the evolution of public media in a digital, participatory era. The theme of this year’s gathering is “Remapping Public Media,” and it will utilize mapping and visualization tools to examine shifting forms, functions and fiscal strategies for public media projects.

Who will be at Beyond Broadcast 2008?

Public Media Leaders: This year’s Beyond Broadcast will involve CSM partners in a Ford-funded initiative designed to help public media outlets make the transition to a digital and global media environment-join leaders from PBS, NPR, PRI, PRX, Sundance, New America Media, LinkTV, OneWorld, and many others.

Media Scholars: CSM planning partners for Beyond Broadcast 2008 include leading research organizations engaged in exploring the relationship between digital platforms and the public interest: the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Harvard; the Comparative Media Studies department, MIT; the Center for Media, Culture, and History, NYU and the Annenberg School of Communication, USC.

Cutting-Edge Creators: From games to locative media, social networks to Twitter tweets, new forms of public media are emerging all the time, Beyond Broadcast 2008 be featuring projects and speakers that push the boundaries.

“Qianmen” is a popular neighbourhood in the very heart of Beijing, just south of the Tiananmen Square. In the perspective of the 2008 Olympic games, the city decided that the six hundred years old neighbourhood has to be “rehabilitated”.
