An annual and competitive film festival
Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival takes place around 11 Dec every year. After completing main festival at Kathmandu, Travelling KIMFF is organized at various cities outside to promote the films and filmmakers and to make people aware about various aspects of Development.
Organized by the Himal Association - a nonprofit organization - KIMFF is a film festival that has been held in Kathmandu since 2000. KIMFF has gone annual and competitive from 2007 in response to viewer pressure and to attract more international filmmakers.From a wide selection of films about mountain people, issues, environment and sports, KIMFF has sought to represent the sensibilities and diversity of mountain life all over the world. In recent years, KIMFF has also been accepting films on human rights, globalisation, gender etc.
KIMFF enjoys a large following of creative and intellectual individuals who believe that KIMFF highlights the socially transformative capability of the audio-visual medium.
KIMFF typically takes place around 11 December to coincide with International Mountain Day. Entry generally opens from first week of April and ends amidst of August. Every year, KIMFF receives more than 250 entries from around the world.
After completing main program at Kathmandu, KIMFF travels to various cities outside the capital with a special package of films from the festival, which is known as TRAVELLING KIMFF. In 2008, Travelling KIMFF was organized at 18 different places where approximately 48,000 viewers viewed the films and participated in interaction program.

There has been no restriction made in terms of genre and all,although this year KIMFF will be focusing on the theme "Cultural and Biological Diversity for Development and Sustainability."
