The old lady, Perpétua, feeling the presence of death, decides to prepare Zeca, her dear grandson, for their impending separation, telling him the story of a king and queen, very rich and powerful, who lost their only son and who sought to bring him back to life. While Perpétua tells the story, Damião and Josefa work to keep the family and prepare for the wedding of their daughter Fátima.
