Paul Schroder was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease shortly after graduating from college. For ten years he took medications, but as his disease progressed, the pills became less effective, leaving Paul either paralyzed or flailing about uncontrollably 90% of the time. The most only treatment option left was a radical kind of brain surgery called Deep Brain Stimulation -- a cross between The Far Side and The Bionic Man. While Paul lay awake on the operating table singing "On Top of Spaghetti," doctors implanted electrodes in his brain, probed his lobes and listened to his brain cells for clues to his disease.
