"backup.award" is an international contest of filmic works that leave the traditional ways of analogue cinema behind. Short film and video works with a length of up to 15 minutes can be submitted if they are no more than 2 years old. All common film and video formats are acceptable. The Backup Festival is especially interested in works that explore new artistic approaches and deal with the plentiful relationships between content and digital form. An independent jury, consisting of experts in film- and mediadesign, - economy and science award prizes of 7500 Euros in total.

Beyond the cinematic experience, backup.forum offers the opportunity to take part in workshops and discussions with experts and theoreticians from all fields of the media industry. backup.connect, has been established in order to support young filmmakers and offer them the opportunity to network with established experts of the media industry. Every festival day can either be completed by a relaxed evening in the backup.lounge or a lively party of the backup.club in the old tram depot of the E-Werk club. backup_festival means four days of extraordinary films, workshops and discourse – four days of eccentricity, philosophy and unlimited party.
