  • Festival Description:

    The World Festival of Underwater Pictures receives the best underwater productions made each year, works which represent a wealth of data in the form of images, films and photos. The Festival is composed of 19 contests and awards 75 prizes. During the Festival:

    • films, slides and slide shows in contest are screened in 3 rooms

    • the phtographies in contest are exhibited

    • there are a hundred of stands (underwater material, photo and video, diving clubs and centres, artistic exhibitions – underwater paint and carving...)

    • for children, discovery games are organised in some stands

    • many conferences take place

    • the Festival band plays

    The World Festival of Underwater Pictures also gathers international underwater personnalities such as : Commandant Philippe TAILLIEZ, Henri G. DELAUZE, Dimitri REBIKOFF, Le Prince Albert De MONACO, Jacques PICCARD, Jacques MAYOL, Jean-Michel COUSTEAU, Luc BESSON, Hans et Lotte HASS, Christian PETRON, David DOUBILET, Eugénie CLARK, Carlo PARLATI, Franck FENNEL, Patricio BERNAL, Stan WATERMAN, Luigi FERRARO, Phil NUYTTEN, Jacques ROUGERIE, Philippe VALLETTE, Sandra BESSUDO, Patrick MOUTON, Lucien LAUBIER, Frédéric DI MEGLIO, Scott CARPENTER, Claire Keim, Bill Todd….

    The Festival was created in 1974 by Daniel Mercier and the Spondyle Club team. It programs underwater audiovisual productions that promote the wealth of the underwater world, that represent ecology and preservation and that create public awareness about the marine environment. Alongside the festival, the “Ocean Forum,” devoted to the subjects of abysses and biodiversity, is held. This round table is open to both the general public and experts. With many competitive categories for film, photography, literature, websites, music, and more, the festival awards prizes in excess of 35,000 Euros each year.
