  • Festival Description:

The Vila do Conde Shorts keeps its most prominent characteristic: evolution. This is why not only the programming philosophy is regularly changed so that it can keep up with emerging trends within the arts and the progress in cinematographic and video languages, but there’s also been a move towards (and an impact in) visual arts from which more and more artists emerge with new work to be shown in this Festival. The Festival is built around the short film Portuguese and International Competitions. Around this core there are other sections such as Work in Progress, a programme where we usually see the return of directors who are connected with previous festivals; and Take One!, where the youngest generation of film students showcases the most outstanding short films, from amongst the work recently produced in Portugal’s film schools. Joining these sections there’s the brand new Remixed, a daring and innovative programme that will promote interaction between visual, audiovisual and musical creations and the now called [in Focus] section, which is dedicated to authors that the Festival gives a special attention, showing aspects from their artistic career.

Eligible films include: Animations, documentaries, experimental films, fictions, and music videos, in 16mm, 35mm or BETACAM-SP/Pal, produced in 2008 or 2009, no longer than 60 minutes, preferably subtitled in Portuguese or English.
