  • Festival Description:

In 2009 after 8 editions of presenting an international short films contest, Sopot Film Festival relaunched as a International Fantastic Film Competition - the first and only fantastic film festival in Poland. Its main sections include:

Fantastic main competition: This competition was created to present full-length films, both features & animations, corresponding with a fantastic cinema theme. Features movies: from absurd and grotesque, through action & adventure, thriller, horror, anime up to fantasy and sci-fi. By the term 'fantastic cinema' Sopot means movies made in an unconventional way and against stereotypical meaning - 'fantastic' in a wide rage of meaning. Thriller and action, film noir, anime, comics adaptations and animations from over the world.

World Shorts & Short Anima: This section is meant for short movies and animations, including commercial, artistic and independent productions including "New Forms & Visions" - independent and breakthrough visions, new forms of animation, movies in which filmmakers are trying to answer the question: What is the role of digital technologies, new media, and new art and design in creating contemporary life and personal space. Short films up to 30'.

World Focus: Independent visions and debuts from all around the world, not connected with a fantastic theme. Both animated and feature.

Sopot is a small Polish town situated on the Baltic Sea coast between Gdańsk and Gdynia, a natural centre of the nearly one-million Tri-City agglomeration and the Pomeranian province. In the south the town is bordered by the Tri-City Landscape Park and its northern border is marked by 4.5 km long sandy beaches of the Bay of Gdańsk.
