  • Festival Description:

The Donostia-San Sebastián International Film Festival endeavours to promote better understanding between peoples and to boost development of the film industry and culture. Conceived in 1952 as an International Film Week for the purpose of screening and marketing films, it was not long before the IFFPA granted it B status (non-competitive), thanks to the success of its first edition. A year later it was called the International Film Festival, and in 1955 the IFFPA recognised the festival as competitive, specialising in colour films. In other words, it could now grant official prizes. This marked the emergence of the "Concha", or shell - at the time only awarded in silver - determined by an international jury. In 1957 the festival was granted "A" status and the Shell awarded in the main categories turned to gold. In 1986 the Festival created the Donostia Award, awarded to a great film personality in recognition for their work and career.

The International Jury grants the following awards:

    • Concha de Oro for best film (for the producer)

    • Concha de Plata for best director

    • Concha de Plata for best actress

    • Concha de Plata for best actor

    • Jury Award for best cinematography

    • Jury Award for best screenplay

The Kutxa-New Directors Award, decided by a Jury other than that of the Official Section which comes with 90,000

Euros, for the Spanish importer (or to the Spanish producer in the event that the film is totally or partially produced in Spain) and to the director of the winning film, will also be presented at the Official Closing Gala.

The TCM Audience Award, determined by audience vote from among the films presented in the Zabaltegi-Pearls Section. The TCM Audience Award comes with 105.000 Euros.

Visit the Festival's Donastia Awards page at: www.sansebastianfestival.com/in/archivo_donostias_t.php

Film buyers and sellers are specially attended by a professional team that provides them with all of the necessary contacts

and facilities, including a screening room in which, after having received written authorization from the respective producers, they can view all of the films sent by the producer to the Festival.
