ASHA PAREKH was born into a middle-class Gujarati household on October 2, 1942 in Bangalore, Karnataka. Her mother enrolled her in Indian classical dance classes at an early age and Asha excelled at dancing. She started her career as a child artist under the screen name Baby Asha Parekh in the film Aasmaan (1952). director Bimal Roy saw her dance at a stage function and cast her at the tender age of twelve in Baap Beti (1954). The film's failure disappointed her. At sixteen she decided to try acting again and make her debut as a heroine, but she was rejected from Vijay Bhatt's Goonj Uthi Shehnai (1959), because the filmmaker claimed she wasn't "star material". Almost immediately, film producer Subodh Mukherjee and writer-director Nasir Hussain cast her as the heroine in Dil Deke Dekho (1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor which made her a huge star. Then there was no looking back for her. With hits like Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), and Caravan (1971). Films like Do Badan (1966), Chirag (1969), Kati Patang, Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978) saw her in more serious roles. Kati Patang got her the film fare best actress award for that year. She became a television director in the early 1990s with a Gujarati serial Jyoti. She formed a production company Akruti and produced serials like Palash ke Phool, Baaje Payal, Kora Kagaz and a comedy Dal Mein Kaala. Her acting accomplishments were not forgotten as she received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 Ashaji was the first female chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification. She has also received the International Indian Film Academy Award for outstanding achievement in Indian cinema (2006)

DHARMENDRA was born Dharam Singh Deol in Phagwara, Punjab. He was fascinated with films right from childhood, often travelling miles to frequent the touring cinema. (He remembers going to see Dillagi (1949) starring Suraiya at least 40 times!) Was noticed in a Filmfare spot-the-talent contest and came to Bombay to become an actor. He was signed by Arjun Hingorani for Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere (1960), his first film as hero but without much recognition. However strong, supporting romantic lead roles in women oriented films like Anpadh (1962) with Mala Sinha, Bandini (1963) and Soorat Aur Seerat (1963), both with Nutan brought Dharmendra to the fore. Phool Aur Patthar (1966) finally made Dharmendra into a star. Most of Dharmendra's earlier films were soft romantic films, with Bimal Roy's Bandini and continuing with Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 60s socials - Anupama (1966), Manjhli Didi (1967) and Satyakam (1969). The 1970s saw Dharmendra take to the action genre like a fish to water. ) He was prefect as the pistol packing hero threatening the villain. Films like Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Jugnu (1973), Kahani Kismet Ki (1973), Yaadon ki Baraat (1973) and Sholay (1975) swept the box-office largely due to Dharmendra's brawn show!
Sholay (1975) and Chupke Chupke (1975) revealed another facet of Dharmendra - his flair for comedy. The 1980s saw dwindle in his films. The Indian Film Industry awarded him with Filmfare Award for Lifetime Achievement (1996)
