Founded in 1995 by TLA Entertainment Group, the Festival presents a "rainbow" of GLBT film and video images from around the world. The festival screens as many as 200 features, documentaries and shorts, and attracts an attendance of over 25,000, making it the largest gay and lesbian film festival in the Eastern U.S. Its uninhibited programming and a packed calendar of parties have also earned it the title of "sexiest gay and lesbian film festival in the country" from Out and About Magazine.

For two weeks in July, following Philadelphia's Independence Day festivities, the Festival presents as many as 200 features, documentaries and shorts, as well as truly fabulous special events like a sing-along Xanadu, a screening of the 1970s adult classic Heavy Equipment in the original 3-D, and a live staged reading of Todd Stephen's Another Gay Movie, with Scott Thompson, Lypsinka and Matthew Rush.
