  • Festival Description:

    The Monterrey International Film Festival is the most important film festival in Northern Mexico and one of the most important cultural events in Mexico. Inspired by the idea that film is a medium that reflects the values, traditions and characteristics of cultures around the world, promoting understanding, trust and peace among nations, MIFF has screened more than a thousand films from all five continents and has hosted the active participation of many international filmmakers in festival events. Each year the festival invites a guest country with an important cinematographic tradition. The Festival also fulfills its objective to promote film culture, by bringing the latest technology and production techniques to Monterrey with its cinematography workshops.

    The Monterrey International Film Festival program includes: The Official Selection of Short and Feature Films in Competition, showcases of Mexican, Latin American and International films, guest films and premieres, lectures, and other complementary events such as the Film For a Better World showcase for documentary films dealing with social topics that affect the filmmakers' communities. The Cabrito de Plata - the Festival's official award- is announced at the Awards Ceremony.

    Feature films compete for: Best Feature Fiction Film - Best Feature Documentary Film - Best Director - Best Screenplay - Best Acting - Best Cinematography - Best Sound - Best Editing - Audience Award.

    Short films compete for:- Short Fiction Film in Competition - Short Documentary Film in Competition - Short Animated Film in Competition - Mexico From Border to Border - Feature Film of Nuevo León.

    The Monterrey International Film Festival is supported by the Nuevo León Council for the Arts, the National Council for Culture and the Arts, and the Nuevo Leon Filmmakers Guild. In past editions, the festival has had the participation of the Basque Cinematheque, Germany, China, Argentina and Australia as Guest Countries.
