The 59th edition of Filmvideo 2008 takes place from July 7 to 12 in Montecatini Terme (Pistoia, Italy) and embodies a moment of huge cultural importance for the diffusion of short films. It represents the yearly gathering of various International filmmaking realities that face each other on the common ground of the film language.
With more than half a century of activity, the International Short Film Festival has imposed itself as the ideal meeting point to confront the various image languages that Authors from all over the world use in a constant search for expression through the synthesis of the filmed story.
This year Filmvideo 2008, in addition to the Animation, Documentary, Fiction, Experimental and Videoclip sections, reintroduce the section: “Europe’s Look”, a permanent socially-focused topic which changes from year to year and symbolizes an in-depth analysis as is seen through the works of filmmakers coming from all over the world. This year’s subject is “The man, Europe, the towns”.
FilmVideo 2008 will also host a retrospective dedicated to the artistic production of a filmmaker whose works have achieved, thanks to their special language, an outstanding artistic value.
A special section will host various works from the National Film Archives Foundation FEDIC (the organization that in conjunction with the Montecatini Terme town council established the Montecatini Film Association, that organizes this Festival), with the purpose of enhancing a precious artistic heritage where images represent a real-life period in the short film history.
FilmVideo 2008 will award the “Career Golden Heron” to a renowned International actor or actress, and with the “Italian Young Film Asset” FEDIC Plaque a young actor or actress for his/her recent achievements in the Italian filmmaking world.
