    The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is a critically acclaimed ten-day event held in the world-renowned historic South Beach neighborhood and other locations in South Florida. Additionally, the festival hosts special members screenings, advance previews and networking events throughout the year.

    The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival was created to bring together film-loving audiences of all persuasions, presenting the best of international, national and local LGBT films to South Florida audiences.

    Screenings and special events draw more than 13,000 attendees from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, the state of Florida, as well as national and international visitors. The Festival’s target audience is primarily composed of gay men and women from diverse cultural backgrounds, as well as interested attendees from the general population. Miami-Dade county is a unique location for a United States film festival in that it is a majority Hispanic metropolitan area and is essentially bilingual in English and Spanish, as well as being the center for a large number of leading Hispanic and Latin American-oriented media companies.

    OPENING NIGHT GALA

    CENTERPIECE GALA
    - Sponsored by Sundance Channel, Avis Rent- A-Car & Flamingo South Beach, MGLFF’s Centerpiece Gala was presented at the landmark Colony Theater in Miami Beach. The United States Premiere of Anger Me (Canada) was presented with director Elio Gelmini in attendance and was preceded by retrospective screenings of Kenneth Anger’s short films Fireworks (on the occasion of it’s 60th anniversary) and Scorpio Rising. Following the screening a festive Centerpiece Party – WayOUT, presented by MGLFF, the Espanola Way Association, Miami Beach Cinematheque and Tylenol PM in conjunction with Stolichnaya and supported by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council was held along Miami Beach’s historical Española Way and featured a program of experimental video and performance art exhibited in the storefronts and promenade of the two block stretch. WayOUT was curated by Dana Keith of the Miami Beach Cinematheque with hospitality provided by Stolichnaya, Perrier, Heineken and Monster.

    CLOSING NIGHT GALA & AWARD PRESENTATION
    - Sponsored by Sundance Channel, Avis Rent-A-Car, Flamingo South Beach with Awards sponsored by HBO, the closing Night film presentation was hosted at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Miami. Following the HBO Juried Awards ceremony, MGLFF’s feature presentation of the East Coast Premiere of The Chinese Botanists Daughter was presented to the attentive audience. The Closing Night gala party took place at Parrot Jungle Island and featured a special performance by Emily Play complimented by delicious buffet style food and Hors D'oeuvres as well as an open bar of Stolichnaya vodka. Prior to the evening ending the HBO Audience Favorite Awards were presented. MGLFF’s Closing Night Gala was underwritten in part by the generous support of the Miami Downtown Development Authority.

  • AWARD WINNERS
    - HBO $5,000 Jury Best Fiction Feature Award awarded to The Bubble (Israel), directed by Eytan Fox.

    - HBO $1,500 Jury Best Documentary Award awarded to Red Without Blue (USA), directed by Brooke Sebold, Benita Sills & Todd Sills

    - HBO $1,000 Career Achievement Award awarded to Eytan Fox. The MGLFF programming committee chose Fox for his impressive trajectory of work and his contributions to queer cinema.

    - HBO $1,000 Audience Favorite Feature Film Award awarded to The Chinese Botanists Daughter (France/Canada), directed by Dai Sijie and The Bubble (Israel) directed by Eytan Fox
