The Mendocino Film Festival is dedicated to providing quality independent films, documentaries, foreign films, short films, and animation to audiences of all ages and cinematic tastes and to educating film and video students in the art of filmmaking and production. Annually, the festival features an especially strong selection of documentary films, and is already making a name for itself by attracting a number of well-respected actors, cinematographers, and accomplished filmmakers, including the world-class documentary filmmaker, Albert Maysles.
The purpose of this festival is to present films that stimulate the creative connection between our inner being and the outer world, films that bring us closer to one another, films that remind us who we are. The festival seeks strong stories and strong characters that move the audience to laugh, to cry, to pause and wonder about the human experience. They seek work that engages and empowers as it entertains, that ventures into realms beyond worn out conventions.
Mendocino has been inspiration and location for over sixty feature films. It is home to a lively mix of artists, farmers, and activists; students, teachers, and fishermen. In 2006, its inaugural year, the festival hosted over 50 filmmakers from all over the world and invited them into its founder's homes, local inns and hotels. The Mendocino community and the audience the festival attracts bring a colorful palette of sensibilities to the festival experience for all involved.
