The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is regarded unequivocally as the most significant film event in Australia. With the largest and most diverse programme of screenings and special events in the country. MIFF screens over 350 films from Australia and around the world – comprising feature films, documentaries, and short films. The Festival also presents forums with filmmakers, panel discussions, celebrity interviews, outside broadcasts, music events, and an International Short Film Competition with the highest cash prize pool In Australia.
The Melbourne International Film Festival currently runs three industry programmes for filmmakers, distributors, sales agents and financiers:
Accelerator - comprising of presentations, workshops and screenings, Accelerator is a fast-track for invited filmmakers to develop their skills, craft and industry contacts on an international level.
MIFF 37ºSouth Market at the Forum Theatre and ACMI - Drawing together Australasian producers with national and international financing partners in the opening weekend of MIFF, MIFF 37ºSouth Market is Australia's only film co-financing market to occur in the context of a festival.
The MIFF Premiere Fund - aims to support, through various mechanisms, a number of quality feature-length projects that will have their International premiere at MIFF. The Fund is a strategic minority co-financier of a range of films and is be keen to see diversity on its slate in terms of filmmaking teams and genres of films.
