  • Festival Description:

L'Alternativa Barcelona Independent Film Festival, looks for personal, original, experimental and narrative films reflecting the world we live in today. 65 films will be screened in the official sections of the Festival, an international panorama of independent production made in the last 2 years.

The selected films will compete in 4 sections: Short, Feature, Animation and Documentary

The Parallel Sections of the Festival include retrospectives, tributes to forgotten filmmakers, thematic programs, work from international film schools, creating a platform to screen and debate artistic forms and creative practices that aim to help develop a capacity for critical thinking - a vital tool for investigating and transforming our surroundings and giving free rein to our imagination.

The Parallel Activities offer workshops and round tables, and act as a meeting place where ideas can be exchanged, providing a space for filmmakers, spectators, critics and historians to share ideas and analyze, debate and consider matters related to filmmaking, cultural and artistic influences, filmmakers' social commitment, and the relationship between music and film.

The l'Alternativa Hall is a living space that functions not only as a meeting place where the Festival public can hang out, but also as a giant cinema with a very original program.

Projections of films alternate with presentations by filmmakers, distributors and curators and live performances.

4 hours of intense programming each night, especially curated programs by L'Alternativa and guest programmers, as well as the Free screen, with uncensored, spontaneous projections of films, presented throughout the week of the festival.
