  • Festival Description:

Krakow Film Festival is the oldest film festival in Poland, organized every year since 1961 as the national short film competition and then grew to include an international program.

The aim of KFF is to present and review the documentary films, animations and short fictions. KFF bestows the Dragon and Hobby Horse prizes awarded by both the International and Polish jury, the FIPRESCI and the FICC awards or numerous other prizes in the three competitive sections:

International Competition for films produced outside of Poland which have not been screened in Poland before.
*Documentary films - up to 60 minutes
*Animated films - up to 30 minutes
*Short fiction - up to 30 minutes

National Competition for films produced in Poland which running time shall be:
*Documentary films - up to 60 minutes
*Animated films - up to 30 minutes
*Short fiction - up to 30 minutes

International Feature Documentary Competition for documentary films longer than 60 minutes, produced in Poland and abroad. The films should not be presented in Poland before.

KFF also features retrospectives dedicated to the works of the Dragon of Dragons Special Prize laureate, out of competition screenings of recent documentaries, reviews of films directed by the Jury members and posthumous retrospectives of the works of distinguished directors as well as presentations of animated and documentary film producers, including - more and more frequently - various television channels. In 2005 the first edition of Kids Fest was organized in frame of Krakow Film Festival which will continue each year.

A strong point of our festival program is the presentation of  long-featured documentary films which adds to the growing attractiveness of the event. Past programs have included: Music in Films, Krakow Documentary Premieres, Reflections, Students’ Etudes Night, Annexes, retrospective of the Dragon of Dragons’ laureate.

The Krakow Film Festival has been officially recognized by FIAPF, the European Film Academy and the AMPAS; consequently, the films awarded at Krakow are automatically eligible for the European Film Awards and the Oscars in the short films categories. The Krakow Film Festival is also a member of the European Coordination of Film festivals, the association of Europe’s most prestigious film festivals.

The Krakow Film Market is a part of Krakow Film Festival and, at the same time, a meeting place for film and television professionals: commissioning editors, producers, distributors, directors, festival programmers and many others.

The Krakow Film Market is the biggest film market for documentary and short film in Central East Europe. In the digital videolibrary you will have the opportunity to watch over 550 newest titles from all over the world.

It is designed to serve as a starting point for those interested in the newest, award-winning documentaries and shorts which are very often underrepresented at international festivals and markets. KFM focuses mainly on films from Central and Eastern-European countries, but the submissions from others countries from all over the world are also accepted.
