Festival Description:

The Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest) has been entertaining the audiences of Indonesian since 1999, with the goal of increasing in the level of film appreciation among JiFFest audiences, particularly young people, who would gain educational benefits from exemplary films they see at the festival. JiFFest is the biggest festival in the region offering a strong slate of foreign and domestic films, internationally renowned guest and riveting panels and workshops.  With approximately 70% of screenings held for free, everyone is invited to come and share in the community experience.

Film are screened in the following categories: World Cinema for big films with big name directors and stars; Panorama for films with a high level of craftsmanship; House of Docs for selected world-class documentary films; and Variety for international short films and A View from the SEA: a focus on South East Asian films was initiated to showcase diversity of current waves in South East Asian contemporary cinema.

Filmmakers compete for awards with international juries. JiFFest presents Indonesian Feature Film Competition witha $10,000 prize in which each Best Film and Best Director winner will be awarded $ 5,000. JiFFest also awards the Movies that Matter Human Rights Award, an award presented by Movies that Matter for best human rights-themed film.

JiFFest Script Development Competition also rounds out the Awards honoring the work of filmmakers. Workshops for three categories of script development are held in which participants are short-listed professional writers who are guided by international tutors during the workshop. The workshop is held for free and JiFFest bears transportation and accommodation expenses for participants who come from outside the city.

Of course, the JiFFest programs wouldn't be complete with out Panels and Round Table Discussions which include: Documentary Panel, Producer Panel, World Cinema Fund and the Roundtable Workshop whose theme changes annually.
