It’s All True – International documentary festival is the most important event dedicated exclusively to the non-fictional production of cinema and video in Latin America. Founded and directed by the critic Amir Labaki, the festival has taken place since 1996 simultaneously in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Year after year, the itinerant circuit has expanded. In 2007,a selection of titles was presented in Brasília, Campinas, Porto Alegre and Recife.
Approximately one hundred Brazilian and international documentaries, with emphasis on the original and classic, are presented annually by the festival. The program includes national and international competitive expositions for full length/medium and short films; the informative cycles the state of things, Latin American focus and Horizon; Brazilian and international retrospectives and special projections.
The greatest award for Brazilian documentaries, free of commitments with distribution at movie theaters or television transmission, is awarded by, It’s all True. The international conference of documentaries is held simultaneously, in partnership with Cinusp Paulo Emílio, linked to the University of São Paulo.
Beyond the period of festival activities, It’s all true maintains intense activity in benefit of the culture of documentaries in Brazil. Since 2002, Amir Labaki has written the weekly column It’s all true, which deals with cinema and documentaries, in the section, Eu & Cultura of the Finance and Economy daily, Economic Value. Since November 2004, the festival has presented a weekly program on Canal Brasil, dedicated to national documentaries. The festival website discloses regularly, by way of the Doc agency, the production and emission of documentaries, in Brazil and worldwide.
In 2006, the festival co-organized Visible Evidence, the principal annual encounter of academics linked to documentaries. Realized in partnership with Cinusp Paulo Emílio and held at the Cinemateca Brasileira. This was the first edition in Latin America. The festival actively collaborates with the organization of Brazilian documentary cycles abroad, such as those realized in recent years in Montreal and Toronto (Canada), Lussas and Paris (France), Tampere (Finland) and Stockholm (Sweden).
Awards
The international jury will award the Best International Documentary and the Best International Short Documentary Film.
Jury
Two distinct juries will be invited, one international and one Brazilian, for the awarding process, each one comprised of three renowned specialists.
The national jury will award the Best Brazilian Documentary and the Best Brazilian Short Documentary Film.
