  • Festival Description:

International Film Festival: Etiuda & Anima, organized by one of the most active film societies in Poland, DKF Rotunda, was founded in 1994 as a festival to promote the work of students at film and art schools from all over the world, the “Etiuda” - short feature films. From the very beginning it received international attention: the awarded films from the first Etiuda Festival came from Israel and the Czech Republic. In 2005 a separate international animation competition was organized for both professionals and independent artists which has included Bill Plympton (Idiots and Angels) and Nina Paley (Sita Sings the Blues).

The Festival's competition program is always enriched by many accompanying retrospectives, panels and workshops. In 2009 they include: Ten best Dutch animated films as chosen by Gerrit van Dijk; Animators' self-portraits (during which, while the artists are present, the audience will get to know works of: Ishu Patel, Piotr Dumala, Jiri Barta and Joanna Quinn). Also the festival program will show the artists of artistic animation who after making only short films started to make long feature films: Ryszard Czekala, Michaela Pavlatova, Jan A. Svankmajer, Karel Zeman, and others.

The awards of the Etiuda & Anima Festival include, for the winners of the Etiuda: a Gold, Silver and Bronze Dinosaur (an additional Special Gold Dinosaur goes to the best film school participating in the Etiuda&Anima). The best animators get a Gold, Silver or Bronze Jabberwocky and a Special Gold, this time for the best student's film of the Anima. Also the Polish Federation of Film Societies has established a jury in both competitions for the selection of Don Quixote award recipients.

The International Film Festival: Etiuda & Anima is hosted at Kino Kijow, which has the enviable perk of the biggest screen in Krakow.
