  • Festival Description:

The Independent Film Festival of Boston has been hailed by press, filmmakers, and filmgoers alike as Boston's best film festival. The book The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide named it "the premier film festival in Boston". Attendance numbers have grown each year as over 20,000 attendees enjoy a week of films, panels, and parties.

Screening in the Boston area's most historic art-house cinemas, the Independent Film Festival of Boston has played host to many of independent film's biggest stars and best up-and-coming filmmakers.

Guests of the festival the last four years have included Steve Buscemi, Chris Cooper, John Waters, Lili Taylor, Noam Chomsky, Bill Pullman, Melvin Van Peebles, Illeana Douglas, Ted Hope, Dylan Baker, Danny Huston, Robert Vaughn, Fred Armisen, Rob Corddry, Bob Odenkirk, Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Andrew Bujalski, Mark Duplass, Joe Swanberg, Ondi Timoner, Doug Pray, Albert Maysles, and many, many more.

The festival screens narrative features, documentary features, short films, animation, experimental film, and everything in-between. In the words of noted author and film historian Ray Carney, "The Independent Film Festival of Boston is really one of the best things to happen to the Boston cultural landscape in the last ten years."
