  • Festival Description:

In The Bin began in February 2000 as the brainchild of film director and short film enthusiast Jed Cahill. Cahill’s vision was to create an event for Australia’s aspiring film makers to showcase their work and put the Gold Coast on the map for short films. The response to the initial event was so overwhelming that Cahill planned to make it an annual event. The festival has continued to grow. Due to the festival’s exponential growth the decision was made to take it national and visit rural and regional destinations throughout Australia.

In The Bin is now regarded as being south east Queensland’s largest and most loved outdoor short film festival.

In The Bin is screened annually in parkland opposite the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Against a beautiful backdrop thousands of people attended the Currumbin festival to be entertained by 16 short films that had been selected from over 600 entries worldwide.

The success of the Currumbin event lead to the birth of another three nights of entertainment. Cahill felt that this would ensure that there would be something to offer for everyone, including sports and family festivals.

After seven years the event has a strong following with people coming from the Sunshine Coast to Melbourne to be a part of the In The Bin experience. Currumbin In The Bin Short Film Festival signifies the launch of the touring festival.

In The Bin has now toured to over 60 communities nationwide. The festival has created an Education Program to work alongside the touring festival where students create, shoot and edit their own short film within a three day period.
