Festival Description:

IMAGO is no longer being produced. It was a model festival.

FFW presents the statement issued by its co-directors:

Dear Sirs,

After 10 years of being pioneers and setting trends in terms of the structure of a large national film festival. After 10 years of fighting ostracism by the government and the mainstream national media ("Lisbon") who can not see more than 1 km from the capital (and Fundão is almost 300). After 10 years working to bring to Portugal a few of the names that marked the film and the music of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. After 10 years seeking always be at the forefront of a cultural program without compromise.

We find (in agreement with the local partner - the City Hall of Fundão) that this is the time to put the word "END" in this project. Today for us the model "film festival" is extremely limiting and even lapsed. The generality of film festivals (in Portugal and abroad), if not all, are boring, boring and soulless.

We do this at a time when we had secured two more years of subsidies from the ICA / MC and all the support of the Municipality of Fundão and major sponsors to continue with the existing model. We do this because we think it is the time to do it, like everything we did here... it seems that this is the option that is needed.

If we were a rock band we would want to be the Beatles and not the Rolling Stones or U2!

If we wanted to be a writer, JD Salinger and not Saramago!

If we wanted to be a director Terrence Malick or Charles Laughton and not Oliveira or Scorsese!

The picture is here! Most likely from the team that produced the festival these past 10 years, a new project -much more ambitious and adapted to our times! A project that can be as or more innovative than in the past An ambitious project with an international brand and a very pronounced way. In short, a project that we can satisfy intellectual and artistically. But it could be more talk to us.

Therefore, it is now our thanks to those who have always been with us heart and soul!

IMAGO presented itself as a multifaceted structure, dynamic and full of interactivity between its different areas, focusing its programming on short films of young directors from all over the world and giving the possibility to the audiences to be in contact with films with no commercial distribution in Portugal. The Festival was a meeting point to professionals and students of the audiovisual field as it organized every year different and pertinent workshops and master classes, special screenings for the schools within its region and even meetings between the persons participating in events. Another one of the basic ideas was to program side by side films from young directors and special programs or the first films from acclaimed directors.

IMAGOs structure was divided in three main sections:

Caixa Geral Depósitos - Official Selection, with two competitive sections, retrospectives and special unusual programs. The Main Competition is for directors up to 35 years, fiction, animation, experimental up to 30 minutes in 35mm, 16 mm or Betacam.

The Docs in Shorts competition was for directors up to 35 years, documentaries up to 30 minutes in 35mm, 16 mm or Video.

Heineken Open Space, with two competitive sections, special programs and retrospectives focused on the more creative and astonishing video productions from around the world. The Under 25 competition is for directors up to 25 years, any genre up to 25 minutes, low cost productions shoot and screened in Video.

Clix Micromovies – for directors up to 35 years, any genre up to 30 Mb and no more than 5 minutes in wmv, mov, swf, mpeg formats

Sound & Vision Experience, with film concerts, master classes, live acts, dj sets and performances by great names from the international scene
