Established in 1981, the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) is dedicated to the advancement of understanding and cultural exchange among the peoples of Asia, the Pacific and North America through the medium of film. HIFF is the premiere international film event in the Pacific, has won the praise of governments, filmmakers, scholars, educators, programmers and film industry leaders throughout the world. HIFF is the largest "East meets West" Festival in the United States and is the primary source for the discovery and exhibition of Asian and Pacific feature films, documentaries and videos in the nation. HALEKULANI GOLDEN ORCHID AWARDS
The Golden Orchid is bestowed upon the narrative and documentary films that best express artistic and technical excellence and promote cross-cultural understanding.
AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD
Audience favorite feature film, documentary or short film playing at LVHIFF. Ballots will be distributed for the first screening in Honolulu of every eligible film during the film festival.
NETPAC AWARD
Founded in 1990 by Cinemaya and UNESCO, the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) is an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting Asian film throughout the world. The prestigious NETPAC award is given to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional works. The NETPAC award is presented annually at international film festivals in Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam, Pusan, Singapore, Taiwan, Yamagata, Amiens and Hawaii.
HONOLULU MAGAZINE AWARD FOR BEST SHORT FILM
Short films are a multi-fold of art, critical observation and creativity that lift spirits and change moods in a matter of minutes. Honolulu Magazine will award $1000 to the best short film at the festival.
