GIRAF4: The 4th Annual Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival takes place this November 5-8, 2008 at Quickdraw Animation and the Plaza Theatre in Calgary, Alberta. GIRAF celebrates the spirit of independent and underground animation, showcasing Canadian animators and presenting numerous shorts, and feature-length animations from around the globe. GIRAF is the only exclusively independent animation festival in Canada. With a hands-on approach, focusing on process and experimentation, GIRAF plays an essential role in the international animation community.
Currently in its 24th year, Quickdraw Animation exists as a dynamic artist-run centre, with a mandate to facilitate the production, education and appreciation of independent animation. Quickdraw serves a thriving community of independent animation artists. One of two non-profit, independent animation centres across Canada, Quickdraw Animation, has been recognized for its unique community-based approach to outreach, and for the quality of creative experimentation emerging from its membership throughout the years.
