    Each year, FICA – Algarve International Film Festival organizes the oldest international "short-film competition" to take place in Portugal.

    The festival accepts films in two categories: Animation and Fiction with a maximum duration of 30 minutes. The submitted films must only be produced in 35 mm format.

    An international jury will award:

    · "City of Portimão" Grand Prize – awarded to the best film in competition, be it ANIMATION or FICTION.
    · Golden Trophy/Fiction – awarded to the best film in the Fiction Category.
    · Golden Trophy/Animation – awarded to the best film in the Animation Category.
    · Best Film by a Portuguese director.

    The competition section of FICA 2008 distributes more than 20.000 Euros in awards.
