Festival Des Trois Continents is the major and the most prestigious event organized by the Association LES 3 CONTINENTS. The Festival includes international co-production training workshops that are held in the city of Nantes (during the Festival) and abroad under the generic title PRODUIRE AU SUD. The Association also coaches professionals and guests at the PAVILLON LES CINEMAS DU MONDE at the Cannes Film Festival and Cannes Film Market, at the behest of the French Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, (from 2006 to 2008) and in partnership with Culturesfrance as of 2009. Further it has been managing a system of direct aid for the production of short films from Sub-Saharan Africa (FACMAS) and since 2007 has contributed to the implementation and management of the new EU-ACP Support Program for the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific Group States) cinema and audiovisual sector created and funded by the Secretariat of the ACP and the European Commission in Brussels.
The Festival Des Trois Continents screens 80 to 100 fiction and documentary films from Africa, Latin America and Asia and gives the following awards: Montgolfière d'or (Best film award) - The award is to be equally shared between the director and the distributor at the time of the film's release in France (promotion drive); Montgolfière d'argent (Second best film award); Audience Award - The Audience Award is endowed by the Jury Wik - Fip composed of listeners and readers and also based on the results of ballots cast by festivalgoers at the theatres after screening's of films in Competition; Youth Film Jury Award - The Youth Film Jury is composed of 9 CNJ students, the Faculty of Foreign Languages (IRFFLE) of Makiz'Art, the Guist'hau high school Workshop for leadership, and the Joliverie and Albert Camus high school.
The 2010 program of the 32nd Festival des 3 Continents will include:
- Competition and Official selection (20 features films in french premiere)
- PRODUIRE AU SUD, workshop focusing on the outline and structure of film co-production within the industry.
- Chinese independant contemporary cinema, rare and unseen films (15 feature fictions and documentaries)
- A tribute to Djibril Diop-Mambéty, senegalese director
- At the present time of the genres
- Sapir Academic College of Sderot (Israel), watching graduated films.
- Program Continent J, for young audiences
- and others discoveries.
