  • Festival Description:

    Fantasporto is an international film festival annually organized in Porto, Portugal. Giving space to big screen productions, to auteur films and to experimental projects from all over the world. Fantasporto hosts enthusiastic audiences, ranging from cinephiles to more popular spectators. Fantasporto also attracts significant media and industry attention. In its 27th edition in February 2006 the festival reached 5,000 media references (both national and international) with a record of 187 hours of TV time.

    The Festival programs films in has eight sections:

    *Official Section – Competition for Fantasy Films – feature and short films (maximum 15 minutes length) including the Méliès d’Argent Award for the Best European Fantasy Film– European feature and short films
    *Directors Week – Competition for Feature Films (no thematic strings attached)
    *Orient Express Official Section (for Asiatic feature films) Non- Competitive
    *Panorama & Première
    *Anima-te (Animation Features and shorts)
    *Panorama of Portuguese films
    *Porto in Shorts
    *Retrospectives

    The Organizers will nominate three International Juries:

    *Jury of the Official Section for Fantasy Films and Méliès d’Argent
    *Jury of the Official Section Directors Week
    *Jury of the Official Section Orient Express

    The International Jury of the Official Section for Fantasy Films will grant the following awards:

    *FANTASPORTO Best Film Award
    *Best Direction
    *Best Actor
    *Best Actress
    *Best Screenplay
    *Best Special Effects
    *Special Award of the Jury- This award will be given to a film whose artistic and technical aspects present a high level of originality.
    *Best Fantasy Short Award
    *The International Jury will also grant the "Méliès D'Argent Award," for the Best European Fantasy Feature Film and for the Best European Fantasy Short Film, presented in the festival. The winners of the Oporto Méliès Award are the candidates to the "Méliès d'Or Award," an event organized each year by the European Fantasy Film Festival Federation.

    The International Jury of the Directors Week will grant the following awards:
    *Directors Week Best Film Award
    *Best Director
    *Best Screenplay
    *Directors Week Special Award of the Jury - for originality.
    *Best Actor
    *Best Actress

    The International Jury of the Orient Express official section will grant the following awards:
    *Orient Express Best Film Award
    *Orient Express Special Award
