DocPoint is the largest documentary film festival in the Nordic countries. In Finland, it is the only one dedicated solely to documentary films. Every year, the festival offers both a national and an international selection of the best brand new movies, celebrated classics, and a special selection of documentary films for children. In addition, a wide range of seminars, lectures and a Masterclass is organized.
DOCview-
DOCview provides an insight into the latest documentary production of Finland and its surrounding countries. DOCview programmers hand pick and invite a selection of the most interesting documentaries from Sweden, Norway, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. For industry professionals DOCview is a wonderful opportunity to see the latest and the most interesting films from the target areas focusing on quality instead of quantity.
DOCview is divided into two functions: DOCview Program on the festival screens and DOCview Videotheque, reserved strictly for professionals.
DOKKINO-
DocPoint organizes a documentary film event for elementary and high school pupils. The event that now is organized for the third time has been named DOKKINO and it has been extended to a year-round event. DOKKINO is organized in co-operation with DocPoint's major partner Finnkino.
By screening documentaries for children and youth DocPoint aims for a higher appreciation and visibility for this genre as well as for improving the status of media education in Finland. In the two previous years, the event has gained a great deal of positive feedback. The success has proved that even though relatively few children's documentaries are being made the demand for them exists.
Ever since the founding of DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival, Finnish documentarists have been awarded at the festival. Aho & Soldan Lifetime Achievement Award (named after Heikki Aho and Björn Soldan, who were pioneers of Finnish documentary film) is presented to an accomplished Finnish director of documentary films each year. Apollo Award, launched in 2006, is a mark of recognition given in honor of a person or community who has done remarkable work in the field of Finnish documentary film.

Donner’s directorial career began with a documentary: he made his debut at the age of 21 with Aamua kaupungissa (Morning in the City), which examines the city of Helsinki. As a documentarist Donner is an exception among Finnish film-makers because many of his works are essay films in form. As a film-maker Donner is a strong auteur, whose presence and life-experience are seen and heard on screen. Among others, Donner’s filmography includes the Finnish documentary classic Fuck Off!, a ruthless and frank description of the state of the union in the beginning of the 1970’s.
Jörn Donner is among the most successful international film-makers in Finland. Ingmar Bergman’s Academy Award-winning Fanny and Alexander (1982) is the most famous of Donner’s productions, but with his company Jörn Donner Productions he has produced several documentaries by high-profile Finnish directors, including Marja Pensala, Pirjo Honkasalo, Markku Lehmuskallio and Anastasia Lapsui.
