The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) is a leader in arts and cultural innovation and diversity. By building an institutionalized legacy for film and film related events for Calgarians and cinemagoers around the globe, CIFF creates showcase and developmental opportunities for artists and a celebratory atmosphere that promotes awareness for film, the arts, and its stakeholders. CIFF exists to showcase film works that represent the best of the best from film festivals around the world with a special focus on celebrating Alberta-made film.
The Calgary International Film Festival accepts submissions of films of all lengths and subject matters for inclusion in the following programs: Galas, Headliners, Mavericks, Canadian Cinema, World Cinema (including American), Documentaries, Shorts, Music On Film, Late Shows, the Youth By Youth Film Series, and annual Spotlight programs (TBA).
CIFF was founded in 1998 and was registered with Alberta Registries as a not-for-profit organization under the Societies Act, receiving charitable status in 2004. Since its inaugural event in February 1999, CIFF has experienced a significant increase in screenings and films from about 40 films within a 6-day festival format to its present two-weekend, 10-day format with over 300 films.
Throughout its existence, CIFF has enjoyed successon many levels including community awareness and visibility, leading edge marketing campaigns, increased private & public support, dedicated volunteerism, and significant growth in attendance and box office sales.

The National Film Board Best Documentary: " DRIVEN BY DREAMS" (À FORCE DE RÊVES)
Directed By: Serge Giguère.
"DRIVEN BY DREAMS" provides a snapshot of a handful of individuals aged 72 through 94 in rural Quebec; ordinary individuals who because of their energy have done extraordinary things.
The Movieola Best Short Film: "MADAME TUTLI-PUTLI"
Directed By: Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski. "MADAME TUTLI-PUTLI" is a stunning, stop-motion animated film that takes the viewer on an exhilarating existential journey with Madame Tutli-Putli who boards the night train, weighed down with all her earthly possessions and the ghosts of her past.
CIFF's Best International Documentary: "OUT OF TIME" (AUS DER ZEIT)
Directed By: Harald Friedl.
The film examines the passing of time and the impact of "big box" retail on small and specialized mom-and-pop shops in Vienna as they struggle to stay open.

The Joe Media Alberta Centennial Award (ACA) celebrating the best new Alberta short film: "I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE"

Christensen’s 6-minute short features animation set to the musical talents of Kris Demeanor. The ACAs were awarded at a special screening presentation on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the Uptown Stage and Screen.
The inaugural Youth by Youth Cinema (YYC) Filmmaking Competition Award: "MR. POSTMAN"
Directed By: Andrew Gillingham
and to "THE UPRISING"
Directed By: Cheyanne Saddleback, Charise Bates, James Morgan and Ranjene Mazumdar.
The YYC awards were presented at a special screening presentation on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at The Plaza.
The recipient of the American Express People’s Choice Award was made official Tuesday after online voting at www.calgaryfilm.com closed at 11:59pm (MST) on Monday, October 1, 2007.
American Express People’s Choice Award: "ROCK PAPER SCISSORS"

Honorable Mention for Best Family Feature Film: "MOONDANCE ALEXANDER"

Filmed in the velvet-green pastures, and big blue-sky foothills of Okotoks and High River, Alberta, "MOONDANCE ALEXANDER" is a classic, uplifting tale of a teenaged girl and the horse she loves.
