BUFF The International Children and Young People´s Film Festival in Malmö, was founded in 1984 and is a non-profit organization. The aim was, and still is, to screen good films for children and young people as well as adults. A meeting place for people working with children, young people and film.
BUFF strives to open the possibilities for more influences from Europe and the rest of the world by showing films that might never be screened otherwise. BUFF considers children and young people to be the most exciting resource we've got, our future.
Since 1995, BUFF has been an official Swedish film festival, an assignment given by the Swedish Film Institute. About 100 films are shown during the six days of the festival, with screenings both day and night. BUFF arranges seminars and discussions for teachers, film-makers and cultural workers aiming to inspire the children and youth film.
Buff Programs includes:
• BUFF International Competition- Consists of Eight Feature Films.
• BUFF Short film Competition- Consists of Approximately 10 films maximum 15 minutes.
• Panorama Program: Features, Shorts, Animations and Documentaries.
Conditions for BUFF International Competition Program:
• The Competition Program will include 8 Feature films, with duration of at least 60 minutes.
• Films in Competition can only be on 35 mm.
• BUFF Grand Prix - City of Malmö Award. Euro 5 500
Award goes to the Director. Selected by a professional jury.
• The Swedish Church Award. Euro 5 500
Award goes to the Director. Selected by a professional jury.
• Filmpokalen – The Youth Jury. Award goes to the Director.
The Youth Jury consists an eights grade School Class from Malmö.
Conditions for BUFF Short film Competition Program:
• Approximately ten films are selected.
• BUFF accepts screening formats in 35 mm, DVCam/Pal and BetaSP/Pal.
• First Prize is The County Council Award. 2 800 Euro (25 000 SEK).
Running alongside the festival, the BUFF Financing Forum provides a unique opportunity for filmmakers to present and co-finance their latest projects. The BUFF Financing Forum will be the long awaited meeting-place for business representatives within this realm of the film industry. The forum attracts the attention and the
participation of financiers, producers, distributors, commissioning editors, funding bodies and directors from northern Europe.
