  • Festival Description:

The Austin Film Festival is dedicated to championing the work of aspiring and established filmmakers, defined as screenwriters, directors, editors, producers, actors and all artists who use the language of film to tell a story. The AFF furthers the art, craft and business of filmmaking by providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation and encouraging dynamic and long-lasting community partnerships.

This festival screens Features in the following categories: Heart of Film Screenplay Competition, Prime Time Television Competition, Film Competition and Film Screenings Program. This festival focuses on the Screenwriters.

The Austin Film Festival is also proud to announce the return of the Young Filmmakers Competition! The AFF will showcase the best teen filmmaking from around the country. The competition is free to enter and open to student filmmakers ages 13 to 18.

The Conference runs alongside the festival. When the Austin Film Festival & Conference launched in 1993, they were the first Conference to celebrate the importance of narrative storytelling in film and the screenwriters contributions to film & television, offering registrants incredible personal access to professional screenwriters, filmmakers and high-level industry executives. The AFF produces over 80 interactive panels over the course of our 4-day Conference including: Meet & Greets in a casual and intimate setting; Roundtables where you'll meet at least 8 agents, filmmakers, or producers; and the general Panels, some of which we limit to as few as a 30-person audience. And when the panels conclude in the evening, panelists and registrants alike hang out together at the parties and hotel bars.
